The following article could very well be written about a city in a third world country. Please, please read it.

What is happening in New Orleans is unbelievable. My heart just aches thinking about all those people. Bascially the city is in a complete state of anarchy, and people are being beaten and bruised, including those who have come to help - police and national guardsmen. It's a humanitarian disaster. Citizens are trapped in the city with no food and no water, not to mention "conveniences" like electricity, running water, shelter, toilets, air conditioning, medicine, and toiletries. Even if they had cars, they couldn't leave drive out of the city because there is no gas. The heat today was enough to seriously endanger babies and very elderly. On top of this, the people now having to hide and defend themselves from the armed gangs that are rampaging the city (as well as crocodiles and snakes that have escaped from the acquarium!). There are fires, riots, and dead people laying around in the streets. In some places the water is still rising - and to make matters worse, New Orleans received a heavy downpour today.
Putting aside all those who have already died from drowning, what they're now facing is thousands of people dying, not from drowning, but from starvation and riots.
God help us. |
